Red Demons

Well, now that I have the unpleasantness of disagreeing with RFO out of my system, let's make Monday's post a grab bag.

First, our lil' demented baby to the left is an Adult Swim ad campaign of greatness. This big-ass billboard hung at the Damen Blue Line stop and stared at people for two weeks. They should have left it up all October, hell, all year. Much to my chagrin, as I walked to the train the morning, demonic baby had been replaced by Robot Chicken. That's a damn good show too, but c'mon a giant red baby with cat eyes? Fantastic.

Also, I am not sure if y'all have seen this yet, but even if you have, watch again. This is what makes You Tube great. Little Superstar has brightened my life with his unbelievable dance moves and uncanny resemblance to the Godfather of Soul.

As for music, let's spread our wings again and play some new, old stuff by the Kings of Convenience. Here's the Kings doing "I'm the Luckiest Guy on the Lower East Side" I think I enjoy their version better than the Magnetic Fields. And let's go with another KoC tune while we're at it. This is the heavenly "DeligEr Jordan."

Oh. And stay tuned, all this list stuff has inspired me to think of some non-traditional lists.

I don't disagree with RFO too often on the music tip. Sure, he's a bit more of an electronic asshole than me, but I am way more of hip-hop dick than he is. Yet, somehow we find a middle ground when it comes to the rock side of muzack.

But, even then sometimes our 'lil obscurest wanker is off the mark. Hey, nobody's perfect. If said obscurest wanker were to visit The Decemberists lovely album Picaresque he would find a band in its prime. Nowhere is that more evident than the "The Mariner's Revenge Song." This is an absolute gem and I have posted it below. Listen closely to the tale of, well, revenge - by the end of the song you are in the belly of a whale.

This newest offering (The Crane Wife), however, sounds more like the Januaryists, a little further down the road (I'm all for progression) but a little too far off the path of which made them great. It's smoother and way more listener friendly (from alternative pop, to just pop). I say this based on the one track I heard on Conan, a fellow Ginger of RFO's and a bit of an obscurest wanker as well. I added "Toreiko" by Brush, another great tune floating out there. That said, just like the book reviews on Reading Rainbow, you don't have to take my word for it. B-dah, duh.
