Rock the Pitchlooza

It's the summer music festival season and I've taken full advantage. In the past month I've attended Rock the Bells, Pitchfork and Lollapalooza. Every event was a one day affair for yours truly. First, Rock the Bells...I was about 15 feet from the stage and so close to the stage that the hair on my arms moved from the maddddddddddd bassssssss. Redonkulous. In the course of the day, I saw A Tribe Called Quest, Rakim, Nas, Mos Def, De La Soul, Method Man and Redman and Dead Prez. I thought I died and went to hip-hop heaven, but no, it was just another year of the Rock the Bells. When you have B. Real from Cypress walking on stage with a fat-ass j in between each act, you know it's on.

The very next day I attended Pitchfork which was cool, but too damn hot and I was too damn tired to really enjoy it. Plus, I really wasn't impressed with the acts. Maybe it was the heat, but nothing spoke to me - ah well, it was a $30 ticket. Which leads me to Lolla which, thanks to Radiohead, was incredible. Mix in my boys from the 'Kron aka the Black Keys, a very cool up and coming hip-hop act called the Cool Kids and you've got a dope show and well worth the $80 fee.

So, that's my summer - what the hell y'all been doin'? So, let's listen to some new funky isht. Ed Banger, if you don't know, well, now you know. And how about DJ Cam? Yeah, I can share my name with him, he's the real deal.

Here is Busy P with Murs "To Protect and to Entertain" and  DJ Cam "Gangsta' Shit."

i'm a lil jealous. your summer tour would be enough to satisfy the average person's lifetime of concerts...
if you want to head to CBus in rOctober - The Heartless Bastards 10/5; MMJ 10/6; Death Cab w/Tegan & Sara 10/8; Black Keys 10/9 & Cold War Kids 10/12. come on down & i'll take the week off work

Id have to agree with C$ on the festival thing, often times the problem is too many bands. Id gladly pay upwards of $100 for some of these festivals if i could see ALL the bands I wanted to see. Unfortunately many of the bands play different stages at overlapping intervals. Not to mention their slot is usually an hour tops if they aren't headlining. Finally Im and old fart and just cant hang like I used to. One or two balloons of hippie crack and Im liable to start climbing up some Wookie's dreads in a paranoid search for Jerry.
You got A nice lineup on deck Tobes. Saw the Black Keys with My Morning Jacket at Red Rocks several weeks ago. Awesome. Props anytime a lone guitarist and drummer can fill the canyons on Denver with a mighty wall of sound. Being from Ohio is just the cherry. MMJ were fantabulous as well. Good ol boys from Kentu'k know how to shred. Im also looking forward to Cold War Kids. Got tix to see them in October. Haven't heard the new album yet. Finally Clutch has a new CD coming out (not sure when) in case anyone cares. Support your local Heavy metal space sludge band turned heavy metal blues revivalist. They have been touring (for a couple years now I belive) with the harmonica player from Toledo's own Five Horse Johnson.
Im out.

First and foremost, great to have you in the blogosphere. You are so right on so many levels, STLJ. I enjoyed the shows, but man oh man was I tired afterward. The fact that I got to see Radiohead and the Black Keys on the same day - well worth it. But I was watching the Cool Kids - great old school hip-hop, and had to leave early to get a halfway descent spot to watch Radiohead. That just isn't right.

As for Cold War Kids, amen, I like a lot of there stuff and the next time they swing through the windy city, I'm on it. As for Clutch, the show at Main Event in Toledo was the pinnacle for yours truly.
