Don't believe me? Read here (I already spoke about it, so did Fresh) and then listen to any episode for FREE on iTunes or pick some from of their favorites from the Web site. Well, Ira has a new book called "The New Kings of Non-Fiction" (NKNF) and it features excerpts from some of his favorite books. Oh, yeah. That's me at the signing, the Barnes & Noble is 10 minutes from my work, how could I not go and meet Ira?
Anyway, one of the excerpts is from Bill Buford's gem, "Among the Thugs" which I have my nose in now. Buford thought it would be interesting to befriend a bunch of English hooligans and see why the hell they need to destroy everything in their path - under the guise of supporting football. You don't need to be a footie lover to enjoy this one - this book is more a sociological study than anything else. Also featured in NKNF is a excerpt from Chuck Klosterman, who writes about Val Kilmer. Yes, Val. Read NKNF to find out more.
As for tunes, how about some Air with "Run" (this one has been in my brain for days and is best listened to with head phones) and yet another break beat, this time Sharron and Harrell Lucky "Pease Porridge in the Pot." Guess who sampled it and I'll reward you with praise and adoration.

Wonderful to have you back, C$. And in a photo-op with that strange-talking Glass. Very impressive. Was he nice in real life? Did you tell him that his on-air persona fondles your scrotum? Anyway, I'm glad to see you tracking this down, following your interests to public venues and listening, even meeting face to face. It's something people do too little of in a day and age where we can communicate via these ridiculous screens we're looking at right now. Also, I've always wanted to read that Buford book. I found out about it because he used to be the fiction editor at The New Yorker and I sent him a story once, hoping maybe I'd somehow rise above the slush pile, as he seemed different than their other editors. Didn't happen.
As for the music, is the correct answer to "Peas" sampling our friends DE LA? The same friends whom we saw together on Court Street if memory serves, and it usually doesn't serve very well these days.
Oh Linwood, your continued patronage to c101 warms the cockles of my heart.
And yes, Ira was quite nice - there were a ton of admirerers, so I was hustled through the line. Plus, there is this weird pressure to think of something clever to say - at least that is what I felt. Anyway, I decided to let it flow and sure enough, Ira asked me, little old me, a question.
He asked if I watched the show on Showtime and I said, yes, and that Iespecially liked the story on the Wiener Circle. To which, he actually paused and looked me in the eye and said he could never go back and I said me too. Ira thinks I'm so smart.
As for the Buford book, I have it. And when I finally see you, I'll let you borrow it. It is crazy.
Last, you know your Native Tounges - nice work. That memory of yours if just fine.
starfucker.
Does Ira have man tits?
[3] Are you jealous Dr. Cream Cheese?
Kind of looks that way, wearing a pink shirt doesn't help his cause.
