Liquor Land

Well. Hope y'all had a merry and a happy and all that good stuff. I know I did.

I visited a little place called Liquor Land. My broham Bru-che bought me a lovely bottle of Glen Livet and it tasted like liquid butter. I also thought I would include a lovely picture of Charleston and the old-timey homes that line a downtown section called the 'battery'.

I liked the weather and the place very much, but there was sumpin' off and I still can't put my finger on it. Perhaps it was my foray to Liquor Land. A two-day bender is bound to throw anybody off. Anyway, I will dwell on this little conundrum and get back, don't fret.

With that, let's rok some breakbeats. First, the original version by Al Hirt "Harlem Hendoo" and De La Soul's twist "Ego Trippin." I am still thinking about composing a mix of old breakbeats and new hip-hop to show what some clever DJ's did with some old gems. Anyway, Happy '07 bitches.

Pan's Labryinth

OK y'all I have a movie you need to see. It's called Pan's Labryinth (PL) and it is a departure from the normal drivel that curses the modern cinema, to put it mildly. Guillermo Del Toro wrote and directed and the audience was lucky enough to have some Q & A with Del Toro after the film.

That's right, he was there in person. Del Toro is fat, sailor mouthed and twisted and funny as isht. In other words, I thought he was great. He has directed Hell Boy, The Devil's Backbone (check that one too) and most recently PL - the premise of which is nutty, yet Del Toro pulls it off with flying colors.

In a post-Civil War northern Spain in 1944, a 12-year-old girl, Ofelia (Ivana Baquero), moves with her heavily-pregnant mother and stepfather, the captain, into a new home in the countryside. Captain Vidal (Sergi L__pez) has been posted to this remote area to rid it of a small Republican militia.

Disliked by the sadistic Vidal, Ofelia, who revels in ancient stories and fairy tales, discovers an immense and ancient labyrinth guarded by a Faun (Doug Jones). He tells her she is the long-lost daughter of the king of a magical land, and to regain entry to her kingdom she must carry out three tasks. So, Ofelia then enters a strange and no less dangerous world of fairies and extraordinary creatures such as the terrifying Pale Man (Doug Jones) pictured...see why this movie is great?

Now, what to rok? How about Nasty Nas "Can't Forget About You" and Miho Hatori "Ecdysis" two different genres clashing, yet meshing, just a page from the book of Del Toro.
