I don't disagree with RFO too often on the music tip. Sure, he's a bit more of an electronic asshole than me, but I am way more of hip-hop dick than he is. Yet, somehow we find a middle ground when it comes to the rock side of muzack.
But, even then sometimes our 'lil obscurest wanker is off the mark. Hey, nobody's perfect. If said obscurest wanker were to visit The Decemberists lovely album Picaresque he would find a band in its prime. Nowhere is that more evident than the "The Mariner's Revenge Song." This is an absolute gem and I have posted it below. Listen closely to the tale of, well, revenge - by the end of the song you are in the belly of a whale.
This newest offering (The Crane Wife), however, sounds more like the Januaryists, a little further down the road (I'm all for progression) but a little too far off the path of which made them great. It's smoother and way more listener friendly (from alternative pop, to just pop). I say this based on the one track I heard on Conan, a fellow Ginger of RFO's and a bit of an obscurest wanker as well. I added "Toreiko" by Brush, another great tune floating out there. That said, just like the book reviews on Reading Rainbow, you don't have to take my word for it. B-dah, duh.
Toreiko

Have you run out of things to talk about? Or do you just like being a salty, nit-picking dog? Well, whatev. At least your posting.
Which isn't saying much since Bone has actually had more posts then you over the past two weeks.
Love the picture, though.
Nope, just had to say my piece. Be careful what you ask for, RFO. Did you like the sneaker Ginger Jebus?
Piece. I am so funny.
Now see, you should learn Fresh's previous mistakes. In the past, I have been known to judge a bit too quickly (usually with a shovel in my hand).
Basing your opinion of "Crane Wife" on the one song the record company deemed to be "most radio friendly," and therefore the song they would play on Conan is an egregious error on your part.
Or the Decemberists' part, for signing with a major label, therby giving up their souls and artistic credibility. Either way, bad decision.
Point taken, but I doubt that one track differs that much from the whole, unless you are in a band called Ween. And that my fine-feathered firebush friend was my point - it was a sure sign of premeditation on their part to nuzzle up to the corporate demon and suck that tit with wild abandon.
did somebody say somethin' 'bout suckin' titties?
As you would say Dr. B, yar!
booyar!
Well now I've got some advice for you, little buddy.
Before you point your finger you should know that I'm the man, and if I'm the man, then you're the man, and he's the man as well so you can point that fuckin' finger up your ass.
All you know about me is what I've sold you, C$.
The Decemberists sold out long before you ever even heard their name.
That last comment was so hostile and scary that I peed on the inside of my pants whilst reading it. I did not, however, two.
Ha Ha ... Januaryists. Nice.
I would give up both my so-called soul and artistic credibility in the eyes of anal internet music bloggers if it meant some sweet cash to record an album and maybe get my tunes on the radio.
Then I would by an apartment in Madrid and just grow old, comfortable in the knowledge that I got some money for a mediocre product.
ok ok, everyone settle down. I was there with Sir C$ when he watched 1/2 the song on the Conan O'brien show. If I had to throw out every cd that I owned that had at least 1 bad song on it then I would be left with...well very few. Do your newsgroup magic C$ and get that damn album so we can put it to the test once and for all. I fear you have put too much stock in your words so that you will never give it a fair shake. Just FYI, here are some albums that are flawless:
1. Tool - Opiate & Undertow
2. Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand
3. Snoop Doggy Dogg - Doggy Style
4. Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane and Over the Sea
5. The Who - Sell Out
This is just my opinion so I hope nobody yells at me for my picks.
[14] you forgot every Beatles album. and NWA's Straight Outta Compton. and Frank Black's first two albums. and Speak English or Die by S.O.D.
all perfect beginning to end.
Good call on the Beatles. I would also add Ry Cooder's and Manuel Gilban's "Mambo Sinuendo." This has over the last two years become one of my favorite albums of all time. Another album I have had in steady rotation for several months now, though it does not fit in the every song is great category, is The Bees "Free the Bees." The Start and One Glass of Water being my favorites.
Wow.
Here's a few of my picks, past and present:
1. The Hidden Cameras - Awoo
2. My Morning Jacket - Z
3. The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers
4. The Monkees - The Monkees
5. Sublime - Sublime
6. Weezer - The Blue Album
7. Rae & Christian - Another Late Night
8. AC/DC - High Voltage
9. Antonio Carlos Jobim - Wave
10. The Beatles - Revolver
11. R.E.M. - Automatic for the People
You know what, that may be too many. But I love 'em all. And I could put those 11 in a CD player on random and listen to them forever.
First, holy isht, VS left a comment. Second, you are correct, but I am of the opinion that I can write a music review after listening to a song for 2 minutes. That's all I need. Oh yes, and no first names here at elarceny VS. Sheesh.
As for the lovefest for the Beatles, well, yes they are great and they wrote fantastic pop songs. But, every album they made and every song? Please remove your mouth from the Beatles nifkin Dr. B.
[18] i'll suck a Beatle dick any day. every song. every album. perfect.
bone, I agree with the Frank Black cd's but i can't listen to the the Beatles from beginning to end. I think they are great, don't get me wrong but I just can't do it.
more lists on eLarceny. i love it. if i like a couple songs on an album, i deem the entire album great. therefore, i have no list. i dont have strong opinions, which allows me to like more things than the average person. i like you all & all your comments. have a wonderful day.
i would like to say i think every song on PJ - ten is great as well has Hank Williams Jr - The Pressure is On.
Rush's 2112. Best. Album. Ever.
Dale's comment. Totally. Lame.
Randy why don't you swing on Rush's nuts some more?
I really can't swing on Rush's nuts. Geddy Lee doesn't have any. Alex Lifeson lost his in a knife fight. And Neil Peart is too busy battling warlocks and such in never never land.
But they make great rock music. Well, thirty years ago, anyway.
The Beatles' Revolver and Rubber Soul are very close to masterpieces. Some more of my favorites
Len? As in steal my sunshine len? REALLY?!?
Believe it or not, "You Can't Stop The Bum Rush" is surprisingly solid. Of course, the special appearances by Biz Markie, Curtis Blow and C.C. DeVille don't hurt.
