Oscar Night Plight

As the Bone Machine told ya, the Oscars are this week people. Oscar seems to be another word for popularity contest, but still I am always fascinated who the "Academy" awards and why. To try and prepare for said popularity contest, Dr. Bone has been trying to watch the nominated films to make his own judgements - I have participated in this tuneup and I have my own theories.

First, "Hustle and Flow" should win best picture simply because it shows the power of music to bond and free desperate people out of desperate situations. And it's about hip-hop. I also think that Terrence Howard should win the Oscar for best actor as he seems to channel the street-hustla pimp he portrays in H&F.

Still, I hear that Keith Ledger does a hell of a job as a suppressed gay cowboy in "Brokeback Mountain" but I haven't seen his performance to verify. On the girls side, I haven't seen one of the movies that the nominees starred in, so I don't know who the hell to vote for - just like an election. Might have to go with the Keira Knightley chicky 'cause I liked her in "Bend it Like Beckham."

Best film ain't much easier, we've got "Brokeback", "Crash" (see the Bone Machine's review), "Capote", "Munich" and "Good Night And Good Luck". Sheesh. I haven't seen any of these so who the hell knows - any input that any of you want to donate, please feel free. If "Unleashed" were released in 2005, I know it would get Thunder's vote.

And for the documentary award, well, don't even get me started because "Grizzly Man" wasn't even nominated. What a huge pile of crap that is, denying the crazy and deranged Timmy Treadwell was a snub I will never forvgive.

Anyway, I was cruising the newsgroups and found two new electronic gems off of Ministry of Sound Chillout Sessions Vol. 7. Here is Green Velvet doing "Dank" - this one will get in your head - and Andr

terrence howard should win best actor. i've seen 4 of the 5 nominated and i was most affected/impressed by his performance. that said, i think philip seymour hoffman will win it. the industry is a game and hoffman has been playing it for awhile. his performace was great, without question, but i think his win will be a combo of that and a recognition of his talents as a whole. he's an actor's actor. howard hasn't paid his dues yet. the same goes for heath ledger, who was surprisingly great in Brokeback. david strathairn from Good Night and Good Luck, suffers from not being a well-known actor, but he was great in that film. it's unfortunate that that thinking prevails.

after i see Walk the Line tonight, i can make a complete judgement.

it was a year of fine male performances, so i could be wrong about everything. what do i know?

lets not forget terrence howard's performance in the new mary j. blige video. smokin'!

Well said good Dr. And I think you are correct about Hoffman, he is due. Beefer, have you watched your films yet?

[3] she's too busy droolin' over mr. howard to watch silly movies.

Good. But who is this C..? I respect anon on this Web site, should my next post be your name and address? C'mon Beef!!!!

You're gonna pay, Dale. I did too give my two cents about Hustle and Flow - which is the only f'n movie of the bunch I have seen - and the topic of the goddamn post was an overview of the Oscars. Dammit. And for your indiscretion I deleted you comment - because I can. Bitch.

mf-er, i know the topic was an overview of the oscars & you havent seen any of the movies. so i will write again, What good are you? you offer no new insight. dont make me come over there

oh yeah, if you go to the link i put up, check out the article on eye gazing speed dating. it was funny as well

i'm confused.

The power of music to bond and free desperate people out of desperate situations is one of the most brazen turdlings of treacle that I have heard in quite some time. Sorry to break it to you C, but the hippie love-fest ended the day we left Athens, Ohio and stepped foot into adult land. I will admit that music can effect a mood, but anyone who thinks that it will free them from their shitty, every day life might as well take another bong hit, crank the volume to 11, and spend a few more hours in the land of disenchantment. Or they can do what the majority of contributing citezens do, which is get off of their asses, accept reality, pigeonhole themselves into a job that they will hate for thirty plus years, and then die of a heart attack just minutes after finishing their third piece of slightly stale cake that reads "Happy Retirement Sucker." Meanwhile, anyone who might attend their funeral can ruminate on how, even under such sad circumstances, when played on the bagpipes, Amazing Grace really is an uplifting, and dare I say, freeing song.

What a timely post, music and racial tension- this has been my past week. At work on Monday I was accused of making a mockery out of black people b/c I have a Snoop Dogg figurine on my desk and I was asked to remove it. Anyone who knows me knows I love Snoop, that's why I have it, making a mockery never even crossed my mind(it's been sitting on my desk for a year and a half). I've refused to remove it, as Dale sometimes says "they've messed w/the wrong ibtch." So my strategy has been not to go on the defensive, its too outlandish to warrant that. I've been on the offensive, being quite the squeeky wheel. When I started my protest I was told two absurd things: "Why can't you be the bigger person and remove it?" and my favorite "We'd hate for you to be thought of as a trouble maker here." Both of which have only fueled my fire. I think the true misconception is that the little white girl can't like rap/hip-hop so she must be making a joke about it.

Sorry, Thunder. But, when did you lose your soul?

As for you Juice, you just made the front page....

Dammit Dale.
