I like to Singa...

So sorry about the week of absence. Once again, I must blame the full-time job. I suppose there are some of us that just shouldn't work full time, it keeps us from doing important things, like writing regular posts. So, without further ado I would like to talk about memory - what a great transition.

This subject seems to be coming up in me head with the utmost frequency. Either it is a reminder that my short term memory is terrible (yes, I know, but it isn't the drugs y'all, even when I was little the short-term memory was crap - unless I was doing drugs then?) even with little mundane tasks or people reminding me of things/times gone by. Pictured is a long-standing memory that Dale and I share, a late night in Athens, probably after imbibing mass amounts of Crown, which revealed a singing Owl that wanted to sing jazzy tunes - please understand ma and pa owl - it's in my soul.

As for my research on the Internets, well it revealed some interesting studies, so take some time and read, won't you?

Craik and Lockhart (1972) argued that the concept of rehearsal alone is not sufficient to account for long-term memory. Rehearsal is a kind of processing but it is not very deep. Craik and Lockhart believed that it is the

i remember odd isht, but that's because it has my full attention because it is odd. my memory sucks (brain, you can post for yourself & let everyone know how bad my memory is). if something is not getting my full, undivided attention, i wont remember. that doesnt happen often because i am distracted very easily.

my brain reminded me just yesterday that i had a hard time remembering the name of a band the she, myself & c$ came up with & the name of the band included my 1st name. that's sad.
it runs in the family, my grandma & mother both have bad memories. as long as i have my external brain, i'll make it ok.

I remember everything that has ever happened for my entire life. Believe me, it's a curse. There is alot that I'd like to forget. Alot.

Memory does work in strange ways. In fact, just yesterday morning I was trying to figure out how mine works. I have a really good memory (so much so that I think it sometimes scares people) so I was trying to figure out why there are certain things that I just don't commit to memory. Perfect example, every single time I set the table I have to ask which side the utensils go on. As soon as someone tells me I put them where they say, then my brain is on to something else so I never process the information. I guess whether consciously or subconsciously, I don't allow it to get beyond the surface b/c it's not really important and I can always ask someone the next time. So I guess that goes along w/Craik and Lockhart's argument, which kind of explains "selective memory".
Oh, gotta give ya a Snoop Dogg update C$. I won! Sure, I probably looked a little whacked out, being a 30 year old woman arguing over a toy. But crazy is what people respond to sometimes. To make a long story short I had several meetings up through the chain until the final decision came from the director of HR, a black woman, who deemed the toy (from http://www.celebriducks.com ) unoffensive and humorous. In fact, after viewing the website she said she wanted to buy the James Brown and Allen Iverson figures. That, plus the fact that I was in contact with the creator and president of celebriduck.com and he offered to personally speak to anyone in my organization who found it offensive was the best outcome I could have asked for.

[2] please share, thunder. i like stories.

Good to hear from you Johnson's. Juice, don't worry your snoop update will make the front page again. And Dale, it is a good thing you have a Juice. But, aren't we all better because of Juice?

What a great post and you have the best blog ever. I forgot, hence sometimes I eat garbage. I'm disappointed in myself.

Wow! harsh.

Gee, thanks thatsright from Cinci. You sure are nice, what do you mean, Thunder?

C$, are you abusing your powers? thatsright's post seems a little different today...
i picture you in your office asking for the room alone. your empire is growing

haven't been here in a while. i completely agree with the fact that the stranger shit is, the more likely you are to remember it. i seem to remember another late night in athens where one c101 was crawling around on toby's front porch sniffing like a dog and then screaming out to us that we were going to hell for leaving him there. laughed our asses off. i think perhaps the more something moves you to a heightened emotion, the more you remember it too.

Nice try, I like to hump countertops! We know the truth even if you're too awesome to have critics. I mean, really, how many pieces of furniture do I have to break before you will write about topics that truly matter - like ancient pillars at the bottom of some Turkish river? We all know your memory is superb, so we all know the real reason why we all wish we were C$. And I promise I will try to capitalize my words at the beginning of sentences, because I like grammar.[8]

No Dale, I do not abuse my vast c101 powers. Head scratch, Dale? AA batteries? Land in Montana? Tickets to a Laker game? You know, I offer you these things, but there are already yours anyway. Do you understand?

I need a head scratch and some land. Hook me up. We could go out there and build teepees and give ourselves Indian names (feathers, not dots). Yours would be He Who Humps Counter Tops. Mine would be Man Who's Farts Smell of Roses, my allies could call me Cheif Fresh Britches.

Birds are flyin' south for winter.
Here's the Weird-Bird headin' north,
Wings a-flappin', beak a-chatterin',
Cold head bobbin' back 'n' forth.
He says, "It's not that I like ice
Or freezin' winds and snowy ground.
It's just sometimes it's kind of nice
To be the only bird in town."

Foul play! Foul play!
