El Libro de Thunderpants

Sorry everyone, but I have to revert back to politics and serious matters. I have to admit, that when I saw this headline, I thought it was a joke. "Cartoon Protests Turn Deadly." Wow. You mean to tell me that people are dying over cartoons? Yep.

Afghan police fired on about 2,000 protesters yesterday, when they tried to enter Bagram Airbase, a U.S. base north of Kabul. Amazingly, only two protesters were killed.

All of this occurred because of a cartoon in a Danish newspaper, showing Mohammed wearing a turban shaped like a bomb with a lit fuse. Islam forbids depictions of Mohammed and obviously, it doesn't take much some Muslims to get fired up enough to kill.

Still, I guess the U.S. does oodles of killin' too, we just use way cooler devices of destruction. We don't strap ourselves with explosives and get to killin'. But, I think all this turmoil begs the question, "What aren't Muslim's pissed about?"

If we had it their way, people would have to stop five times and pray (I could maybe live with that one), woman could not show any part of their bodies (I definitely cannot live with this one) and religious leaders basically decide everything (this is way too much power for anyone to possess without any checks and balances) - again, though, we are getting into Bushy land, so I don't want to sound too hypocritical.

The Muslim reaction to the cartoons makes me think there are much deeper reasons behind such vehement protests. But don't worry kiddies, c101 has the solution - Muslims need to be hugged. They are such incredibly softies and are so crazily sensitive, they go blind with rage anytime anyone criticizes their religion or them - even in cartoons. I think they should all take a page from El Libro de Thunderpants and, well, hug it out. Simple as that, right Thunder?

On that note, let's imbibe two hits off Ger's "Oregonian." And please check out Ger's cover art, quite impressive. First, is Andrew Bird's "I" followed by Mirah's "Promise." Maybe if our Muslim friends had a mix exchange with their pals to go along with hugs the world would be a safer and, most importantly, happier place.

What can I say? I'm a hugger, not a shaker. If that wierds some people out I'm sorry. You're right C$. Everyone should have at least 1 hug per day.

Sure as hell doesn't weird me out, Thunder.

what did Ziggy do this time?

Ziggy pissed off the Muslims, Dr. Bone. And thanks for chiming in RFO.

did anyone notice when this story 1st broke, the tv news programs kept showing the cartoon so people would know what they were talking about? they may not have started the fire, but they sure know how to fuel it. finally, sunday night's nat'l news was talking about it & made a comment that they decided not to show the cartoon again. look at the big brain on brad! only took more rioting & destruction for people to figure this out.

people need hugs, and as we are hugging them, we must teach them how to laugh at themself, it will save a lot of lives.
laughing at yourself takes a lot, laughing at c$ is just fun

C$'s mom likes hugs.
(obligatory monthly joke about Mrs. Wigton)

Huh. Dale, somehow we went from speaking about Muslim's to C$? I guess it is a good thing that I am not Muslim. But you do make a very good point - "Oh, this hurts?" "I think I will keep poking it."

And, KW, while it is true my mom likes hugs, I don't think I like your tone.
