Daft Punk Squared

Here is a rare double post. Very soon Daft Punk will be releasing a new album called Human After All. It is floating around in cyber space because as you might imagine, some one leaked it. But, strangely enough, I’m having trouble finding it. I know, most of you are shocked. The early word is that Human After All sounds a little bit more like the fantastic Homework then the not-so-great Discovery. If this is the truth then I will be happy. Look for the new album March 21.

In a note relating to Daft Punk, LCD Soundsystem will be releasing a new double disc soon. Half the brains behind one of the best production teams in NYC, James Murphy took his time to create a crazy album that mishes and mashes punk, rock, disco and electro beats into something that is more then danceable. If there is such a thing. The first track off the album is called Daft Punk is Playing at My House. Look at this video!

Stuff to Steal: Daft Punk’s new single Robot Rock. Breakwater’s Release the Beast, the song Daft Punk "sampled" the hell out of to get Robot Rock, also Daft Punk's Television Rules the Nation and finally LCD Soundsystem’s Disco Infiltrator. (Great use of the cowbell)

If you trash Discovery one more time I'll trash you.

Discovery is a lot better than you give it credit for. I love the fussion of 80's pop and 90's electronica. It allows for a lot more diversity when designing a set.
However, it does have some serious weak points, where Homework is solid through out.
Plus, I have more positive memories associated with homework. For some reason, everytime I listen to the album, I think of "Help," dancing in basements, Meijers, and some type of creamy orange cough syrup. O-yeah, I can not help but think that the first time I heard it was one of the most entertaining times of my life. Hey-Ho Rodeo!

[1] I will trash anyone I want. Here's my short list for bands that I will be trashing next:
1. ABBA
2. Belle and Sebestian
3. ABBA (again)
4. AC/DC
5. And probably if I'm bored I'll trash Discovery some more just for shits and giggles

Go do some more herion, ya washed up teen-heart throb.

Now who's as cold as ice?

[2] I agree, I think it is better then I let on. I just like raggin on those crzay little French DJs because they are a one trick pony. Find a song, sample the hell out of it, add a break beat or a house beat, talk or sing through a vocoder and prest-o change-o! You have a Daft Punk song. But then, what DJ doesn't do this?

[3] YOU are as cold as ice, eLarceny!

Oh yeah, I agree...Daft Punk is basically just a sample-happy French duo with a penchant for catchy beats who have maintained their own mythos by refusing to maintain a public persona, regular touring schedule, or any other characteristic typically associated with a pop group. Which they are. Make no mistake. Listen to ABBA's last two records or just some of their latter-day singles and you'll find the formula for half of Discovery.

While Daft Punk may not be the most original at what they do, they certainly have good marketing skillz. For my money, the most talented French DJs are the guys from Air. Its not dancable or poppy, but I likes. As for ABBA, I'll take your word on it, Dancing Queen.
